The
May Organic Farms are a collection
of little farms all managed under
one organic regime. The hub of
the enterprise is in the Panteg
Valley where the three little
farms of Panteg, Ystafellwen and
Gilfachwen. It is in the fields
of these three little farms that
the stock come home to over winter
and have thier calves and lambs.
Geoff
Spawton has a degree in economics.
He was a very early convert to
organic farming and was a member
of the Soil Association as early
as 1975.Today he is one of the
top breeders of Highland Cattle
in Wales. He and wife Annie built
up The May Fold of pedigree Highland
Cattle over 20 years.
Annie
(surname May) is a retired Classicist.
Over 30 years ago she took her
Grandmother's Christian name as
a surname and kept it after she
married Geoff. When they founded
their fold of Highland Cattle
Geoff suggested they call it The
May Fold in memory of her wonderful
grandmother. Annie has now retired
in order to write, raise prize
winning cattle and tend her garden.
In
1999 they were joint founders
of The Highland Cattle Club of
Wales; an organisation dedicated
to the support of breeders of
Highland Cattle throughout Wales.
Geoff was the first Chair of the
Club and Annie took over in 2005.
