The May is a collection of organically managed little farms along the bottom of the Panteg Valley. The mainstay of the farm is a fold of Highland Cattle. We farm just over 500 acres and work closely with the Countryside Council for Wales and the Shared Earth Trust. Our cattle have been grazing The Shared Earth Trust for over 15 years and the bogs of Cors Fochno and Corse Caron for almost as long
Our bloodlines come from Scotland, some of them quite rare theses days: Torloisk. Leachy, Chanaidh, Glenquoich. In those early days we had to go to Scotland to buy. Today you can find excellent animals anywhere in the British Isles.
The Panteg Valley, the hub of the May Organic Farms, has a special quality about it. It is not a businesslike quality; more that there is a sense of something serene and secret. As you come down the long track, through an avenue of great beech trees and out into the sun of the farm yard you feel as if you’ve entered another world. It is the perfect place to rear animals, grow vegetables and watch nature ging about its daily busines.
We first came to here over 20 years ago with a small fold of Highland Cattle, all youngstock. But Folds grow and today we run between 50 and 70 head of cattle, depending on what we sell and what we decide to keep for breeding and conservation grazing.
